Transport

The city centre is also home to five Michelin Star restaurants (including Adam’s with its carefully selected tasting menus), has a thriving independent food scene (Marmalade on Broad Street is one of our favourites for lunch) and is also a haven for shoppers. Well when you have The Bullring and the New Street station Grand Central shops on your doorstep, it would be rude not to browse every now and then!

Public spaces

One of the main benefits of living in Birmingham City Centre is that it is really pedestrianised, which means getting out and enjoying all of its public spaces is a total breeze. And there is certainly plenty to see – from Cathedral Square, to Colmore Row, Victoria Square and the Education Quarter, you’ll be able to take in the architecture and history of the city at your own pace. Plus don’t forget about the picturesque canals throughout the City Centre too – we think they make the perfect place to take a stroll after a hard day at work!

Things to do

There are plenty of options to keep you entertained in Birmingham City Centre – and getting bored is pretty impossible! Brindley Place in the business district not only has plenty of bars and restaurants, but is also home to the Sea Life Centre and the National Indoor Arena. If you love seeing big name acts live, this is certainly the place to go! Plus you’ll also find The Electric Cinema (the UK’s oldest working cinema), Hippodrome, ICC, Town Hall and Repertory Theatre in the city too – when it comes to culture, Birmingham really does have it all!

Edgbaston

Location

Edgbaston is an affluent suburban area of central Birmingham, curved around the southwest of the city centre and is bordered by Moseley to the South East and by Smethwick and Winson Green to the North West. Edgbaston is famous for many reasons, including the celebrated Edgbaston Stadium. Some of the biggest matches in cricket history have been played at the Stadium. England has played at Edgbaston on numerous occasions. This year, Edgbaston Stadium will host the world-famous Ashes test series between England and Australia.

If the Australian team want to admire some beautiful natural scenery while in Edgbaston, the majestic Cannon Hill Park is just a few steps from Edgbaston Stadium. This fantastic park plays host to a number of wonderful festivals which typically involve a selection of delicious food. It is also the perfect place to go for a relaxing walk, where you can soak in the calm and tranquility that only immaculately kept trees and flower beds can bring.

Golfers will be relieved to learn that Edgbaston has an elite golf club, which doubles as a brilliant venue to host events, once you’ve finished on the course. Other exclusive clubs in the area include The Edgbaston Priory Club.

Transport

Train – Two railway stations serve the area. The first, University station, is found in south Edgbaston, west of Birmingham University. The second is Five Ways railway station in the North of the ward on the city’s Middle Ring Road.

Car – The A38 road and the A456 road runs through the ward, connecting it to Central Birmingham and beyond.

Bus – the 1, 45 and 47 services provide clean, quick and comfortable routes between Edgbaston and Birmingham city centre, Coventry and the Black Country with incredible frequency.

Great Barr

Great Barr is a suburban area in North Birmingham, three miles from Birmingham City Centre. The area was historically in Staffordshire, and the parts now in Birmingham were once known as Perry Barr, which is still the name of an adjacent Birmingham district. Great Barr was largely rural until the early 20th century, however, it was to witness to the beginnings of the industrial revolution in the nearby towns of Birmingham and the Black Country.

Train – The closest train station to Great Barr is Hampstead, 1.4 miles from Great Barr. Services go to Birmingham New Street.

Car – The A34 runs through Great Barr to Walsall and Birmingham City Centre. The M6 and M5 are also very close to Great Barr.
