Living here puts you right in the middle of a vibrant, thriving multi-cultural community. There is so much to do in Birmingham city centre, whether you are using it for business or pleasure, that you will never have a dull moment while living here. We will detail some of the area’s highlights in this article.

Entertainment

On Stage – Whatever your interests are, you’ll find a series of events to excite them in the city centre. Theatre lovers have an enviable choice between the Hippodrome and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre (known locally as ‘The Rep’) to watch a play or musical which they will remember for years to come. The performances do not stop within the limits of conventional theatre either. The Rep is currently showing Cirque ‘Berserk!’, which is a magical infusion of everything that makes a circus spectacular, brought to you over almost two hours of family fun. The Hippodrome is currently showing its latest edition of the world-famous ballet Swan Lake. As the theatre sits deep in the heart of Birmingham’s Chinatown, why not experience an authentic Cantonese meal before or after heading to the ballet? If you have particular interests in Chinese culture, why not immerse yourself in the theatre’s celebration of Chinese New Year between 8-10 February 2019? These two theatres alone could occupy the majority of the leisure time you spend in the city centre, but there is so, so much more for you to enjoy in the heart of Birmingham.

Symphony Hall regularly puts on truly majestic concerts. Whether you are interested in classical music or jazz, Symphony Hall puts on concerts at lunchtime, in the early evening, and later in the evening. This means that you can relax in the odyssey of tranquil relaxation which beautiful music creates before having to go back to the office, or shortly after leaving. Even if you’re not a huge fan of classical music, experiencing one of these concerts, particularly at lunchtime is a fantastic stress reliever and will therefore make you far more productive when you get back your desk.

If you prefer to listen to hit pop records, then the O2 Academy is a fantastic venue for live music which hosted Spotify’s fantastically received ‘Who We Be’ concert last year. If you want to see your favourite global superstar on stage then Resorts World Arena (within easy access of the city centre) should be your first port of call. This stadium attracts some of the biggest stars on the planet, from Drake to Ozzy Osbourne. Resorts World Arena is part of the NEC Group which also attracts some of the funniest and most well-known comedians in the world to Birmingham.

As well as hosting comedy stars like Chris Rock and Ricky Gervais in its stadiums, Birmingham also has a thriving comedy club scene. Glee Club Birmingham presents comedy shows that will make you laugh so hard that you may well still be hoarse from laughing the morning after the show. Many other hilarious comedy clubs are spread throughout Birmingham’s city centre. Once you’ve finished roaring with laughter, you’ll probably find yourself in the city centre at about 10.30pm in a very good mood. Birmingham’s famed nightlife awaits you.

On The Town – Broad Street is home to many nightclubs that will allow you to dance the night and most of the early morning away while making marvellous memories with your friends, to the sound of tunes from your favourite DJs. Highlights of Birmingham’s clubbing scene include the vast Pryzm. Sitting at the top of Broad Street in the former home of notorious nightclub Gatecrasher, Pryzm has multiple floors and seems never-ending in size. Their DJs play a variety of genres in different rooms, so whatever genres you love, you’ll find them incorporated into huge parties at this spectacular venue.

Away from Broad Street, John Bright Street is home to an eclectic mix of bars and restaurants that can provide you with both dinner and dancing. Turtle Bay serves all of your favourite drinks and cocktails, while Nakira Grill & Bar allows you to taste some of the best of South African cooking, before partying on until 12am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Beer lovers will want to make The Post Office Vaults part of any night-out in Birmingham. As well as 8 real ales and 6 guest beers (which are constantly changed) from some of the UK’s best micro-breweries, this Pinfold Street bar has an incredible collection of 382 foreign bottled beers. While we’re talking about beer, it is impossible not to mention The Wellington on Bennett’s Hill. 27 beers of varying flavour, texture and strength are on tap in this classic Brummie pub. Ale enthusiasts from across the UK come to The Wellington to sample the latest additions to their famous ‘Beer Board.’

Whether you’re looking to party or just to relax with friends in a good pub, the city centre has you covered.

On Screen – Birmingham’s city centre is home to a number of cinemas. The Electric on Station Street is known for having comfortable sofas that you recline in, as you take in any one of the excellent films that they screen. This cinema is the oldest in the UK, having first opened in 1909. On entering the cinema, you can see why it’s been a success for so many years. The Electric serves deli and vegetarian platters, ice cream, tortilla chips with three dips, locally made cakes and the sweets that accompanied some of the best moments of your childhood, to make your viewing experience extra-special. The cinema also serves a range of soft and alcoholic drinks.

If you want to see the latest blockbuster in 3D, then Cineworld on Broad Street or the Odeon on New Street will allow you to be at the front of the queue when the most hyped films of the year are finally released.

Eating-Out – After you’ve been to the cinema, and whetted your appetite with some great snacks, you may well want to go out for a meal. Birmingham’s city centre is home to a cornucopia of restaurants that serve almost every cuisine on the planet. Michelin-starred cuisine is available at Adams (Waterloo St) Purnell’s (Newhall St) and Simpsons (Highfield Rd) where your taste buds will be taken on a sumptuous journey which they will never forget.

More widely in the city centre, Chinese to Ethiopian cuisine is available for your delectation, as well as all the major restaurants chains and brands you would expect to find in any major city. Every budget and taste bud is catered for.

The best thing to do is just to walk down one of Birmingham’s many streets and see what culinary experiences you stumble upon.

Property Developments

Like any city, Birmingham has a range of luxury apartments. However, what separates Birmingham city centre from the hubs of other cities, is the truly groundbreaking and jaw-dropping levels to which leading developers are going to set new, previously unprecedented standards in luxury living. Combining a private cinema and gym with 228 luxury apartments, St Martin’s Place will mix a central location with leather, oak, art, marble and sumptuous space to create an incomparable living experience for its clients on opening in 2020. The development is an innovation of Seven Capital, who are the creative and financial force behind many other of the city centre’s luxury developments. With the Birmingham property market projected to grow by up to 20-30% over the next four years, these luxury developments will only increase in scale and number.

Birmingham city centre has everything you need to live your dream life in your dream home 24/7, 365 days a year. The area truly is a great place to live, work and raise a family.
